About the Deep Blue 50 R

The Deep Blue 50 R is Torqeedo's remotely steered high-voltage outboard for larger motorboats and fast tenders. It is sold as an integrated propulsion system rather than a stand-alone motor: the package includes the outboard, connection box, charger, throttle, onboard computer, display and cabling, while the high-voltage battery is ordered separately. Current technical data lists approximately 50 kW of continuous shaft output, 60 kW peak output and 198 Nm of torque. The motor and electronics weigh from 139 kg, before adding a battery that weighs several hundred kilograms. That system weight and the high operating voltage make professional installation and hull-specific engineering essential. The onboard computer combines battery state, consumption and GPS speed to calculate remaining range while underway. Long and extra-long shaft versions are available for different transoms, with electric tilt and trim included.

Performance in Context

Torqeedo publishes an example using the Deep Blue 50 R and a 40 kWh battery. Depending on the boat and conditions, the example shows 20 to 25 knots and 16 to 20 nautical miles at full throttle. At a five-knot displacement speed, published range expands to 33 to 100 nautical miles. These are system examples, not motor-only guarantees. Propeller choice, hull resistance, load and weather determine where a specific installation falls within or outside those ranges.

Battery and Charging

The Deep Blue 40 battery provides 38 kWh of usable capacity and weighs 284 kg; the Deep Blue 80 provides 77.6 kWh and weighs 562 kg. Battery selection therefore changes both range and vessel displacement. Torqeedo includes a charger in the drive-system package, but charging time and shore connection depend on the battery bank and installed charging equipment. The high-voltage architecture should be installed and serviced through qualified partners rather than treated as a portable outboard setup.

Availability and Pricing

Torqeedo lists the Deep Blue 50 R through its sales and service network, with the battery excluded from the standard motor package. A useful quotation should identify shaft length, battery model, charger capacity, controls, installation, cooling and commissioning. Price comparisons need to cover the complete installed system because the battery and integration work are substantial parts of the project.
