About the WAVE 70+

The WAVE 70+ is ExploMar's compact high-voltage outboard for lighter boats. It produces 40 kW continuously and 80 kW at peak, with the manufacturer describing the peak output as 108 hp. At 80 kg for the published 22.5-inch version, the motor is much lighter than ExploMar's WAVE 150+ and WAVE 300, though the battery remains the largest part of the complete system. The motor uses an X-pin flat-wire design, a reduction gearbox, closed liquid cooling and thermal management. Remote and tiller controls are available through a CAN-based control system with a five-inch IP67 display. ExploMar packages it with either one or two 60 kWh NMC batteries and a charger. The published applications cover boats from roughly four to eight metres, with the larger battery package directed toward the upper end of that range.

Performance in Context

Peak output is 80 kW; the continuous rating is 40 kW. ExploMar uses an estimated consumption figure of 1 kWh per kilometre for its packaged examples, but does not present that as a universal result. Range depends on the 60 or 120 kWh pack, hull efficiency, load and operating speed. The battery adds 360 kg per 60 kWh module, so a second module doubles energy while also adding another 360 kg before other installation hardware.

Battery and Charging

The SI-60 NMC module stores 60 kWh, operates at 360 V and is listed at 360 kg. A twin-pack system provides 120 kWh and weighs 720 kg in batteries. Both use active temperature control and an IP67 enclosure. ExploMar offers a 7 kW portable charger and a 40 kW movable charger. Available shore power and the required turnaround time should guide charger selection.
