About the Alaris

The ALARIS 6.0 is Tohatsu's battery-agnostic electric outboard for small boats. Its brushless motor draws 6 kW, which Tohatsu places in the 9.9 hp combustion-outboard class. Buyers can choose tiller or remote controls and 15-, 20- or 25-inch transom heights. The lightest remote version weighs 32 kg, while the lightest tiller version weighs 35.1 kg; neither figure includes a battery. Passive cooling places the motor and heat sink underwater, avoiding a separate pumped cooling circuit. Integrated electric-hydraulic trim and tilt is standard. The remote model uses a three-inch touchscreen, while the tiller version has a 4.6-inch display showing speed, trim position, battery status, gear, diagnostics and security information. The outboard includes built-in GPS, corrosion-resistant materials for salt or brackish water and a replaceable skeg.

Performance in Context

Tohatsu does not publish a universal boat speed or distance range. Its theoretical runtime table assumes four 100 Ah, 48 V nominal lead-acid batteries. Under that assumption, runtime is 48 minutes at the full 6 kW draw, 96 minutes at 3 kW and 3 hours 12 minutes at 1.5 kW. Battery chemistry, usable capacity, hull resistance, load and conditions will change those figures. The 9.9 hp comparison describes the intended power class; the measured electrical input is 6 kW.

Battery and Charging

The ALARIS accepts 48-to-60 V lithium-ion, lithium-iron-phosphate, AGM or flooded lead-acid configurations capable of supplying the required current. Tohatsu includes a power-cable set with battery switch and fuse but does not prescribe one battery or charger. That flexibility lets a dealer match capacity and chemistry to the boat, but it also means system weight, charge time and range cannot be inferred from the motor specification alone.

Tohatsu lists the ALARIS 6.0 for the United States, Canada and Europe through its dealer network. Pricing depends on tiller or remote controls, shaft length, battery bank and charger. A complete quotation should identify the selected batteries, usable energy, charger, cables, controls and installation rather than quoting only the outboard carton.
