About the Avator 7.5e

The Avator 7.5e is the smallest model in Mercury's electric-outboard family and is intended for jobs normally handled by a small petrol outboard. Its rated prop-shaft output is 750 W, while Mercury compares its acceleration and speed with a 3.5 hp combustion motor. The 1.03 kWh battery drops into the top of the motor without a separate power cable, which keeps installation simple and leaves the boat free of a remote battery box. Buyers can choose tiller or remote steering and three shaft lengths. The tiller version is particularly portable: Mercury lists 19.5 kg for the lightest motor assembly without the battery and 7.6 kg for the battery. A colour display reports charge, power, estimated runtime and GPS-based distance remaining, giving the operator more useful trip information than a basic battery gauge.

Performance in Context

Mercury's range figures come from a 13-foot Veer V13 with a 382-pound dry weight. With one battery, the test boat covered five miles in 60 minutes at constant full throttle. At 25 percent throttle it covered as much as 34 miles over 19 hours. That large difference is typical of displacement-speed electric boating: a modest speed reduction can materially extend runtime. Hull shape, load, wind and current will change both results, so the 34-mile figure should not be used as an all-purpose range rating.

Battery and Charging

The removable lithium-ion battery stores 1,030 Wh and is rated IP67. Mercury includes a compact 110 W charger that works from a household outlet. Optional 230 W and 520 W chargers reduce turnaround time, and a spare battery can be exchanged without rewiring the boat. Operators planning multiple trips in one day should compare the faster charger and spare-battery costs with their available time between runs.
